Project BikeCam started as a website that I put together for like minded enthusiasts who were wanting to capture video of their time on their bikes. I have been playing around with video and fast moving vehicles for over 8 years now and have mounted cameras to everything from motorbikes, rally cars, go-karts and even jetfighters with my addiction going as far back as mounting my Sony Handy Cam to my tank in ways that probably weren't legal then progressing to using Bullet Cams that fed into the handy cam while it was stowed away in a tank bag and then moving into solid state recorders such as the ChasCam pdr100, VIO POV 1.5 and the Countour HD. In this time I have watched as the market has matured with technology improving and price points dropping and we now have fantastic self contained solid state recorders as well as hi-def devices that fit in the palm of your hand, bullet cams have also dropped to the point where you can now afford more than one at a time but the one thing that has not improved is the variety of ways you can actually mount these cams or the support you can get from people who have had real world experience with setting up and using the most popular units on the market. The focus has been on helmet Cams and there are dozens of ways to mount one of these cams to your goggles or helmet be it a bike helmet, ski helmet, tactical helmet, surf helmet etc however solutions for mounting outside of the norm have been fairly limited to where you can stick strong double sided adhesive tape, hi grip velcro or simple handle bar mounts and if you search the accesories of most suppliers of the various cameras and recording devices they cater well for race cars with various suction and clamp mounts or push bikes but not so well for the curves that you find on a good sportsbike for example. As a result of this I had to become self sufficient and manufacture (with the help of a trusty industrial metal work lathe located in my father inlaws garage) my own mounts to achieve the various angles I have wanted to get for my shots and given I had trouble finding any information that was usefull in these activities I decided to start my own dedicated fountain of knowledge in the hopes I could both help and attract other like minded people within the online community. The experiment proved to be far more successfull than I had dreamt and I quickly found myself being inundated by enquiries on where to buy the equipement I was using and how to set it up so as a result I made enquiries on becoming a reseller of the various units and accessories I use and you can gaurantee if I sell it I use it, this allows me to offer full support on how to use and setup all of the equipement on the site and the only way I can gaurantee that is to have used them myself daily. I refuse to stock anyhting I have not throughly tested myself and provide all of my findings and reviews be they good or bad on the site, Project Bikecam is not a box moving e-commerce website it is a resource for enthusiasts to be able to obtain and get the most out of their investment and by investments I dont just mean your cameras and recorders but the bikes, cars, gokarts, helmets etc that you attach them to.
